The buildings and fences  are timeworn, old enough to have hundreds of layers of paints, plasters, writings, scratches, bullet holes, posters, blood, notes, and drawings,  beaten by years of sun, rain, and weather of all types .  This aging process presents a patina , crustiness, and antiquing that anything from this century cannot duplicate.  The past 5 years I have been living in Mexico, and my palette is brighter, but still earthy, and I try to incorporate the messages and writings I find embedded in these beautiful walls.
